Villages Hiking Club, San Jose, CA
Our mission is to promote an active and healthy lifestyle through hiking.
John and Sandy Petrin led a hike along Los Gatos Creek trail of approximately 4 miles. It was an easy “out and back” hike that began at the Oak Meadow City Park parking lot – just 50 yards past the entrance to Vasona County Park. They also took time to explore downtown Los Gatos.
Gary and Terry Holmquist led a rambler hike on the golf course today starting at the bistro patio and ending back there.
Katy Peretti led a hike to Coyote Valley open space off Palm. The approximately 4 mile undulating hike with moderate elevation was through a mixture of trees and open area.
A group of hikers hiked up our hill on Saturday, May 25th.
Kathy Tanaka led a hike to Senior Safari at Kelley Park in San Jose. Seniors are admitted free into Happy Hollow Park and Zoo for Senior Safari. Special activities are planned for seniors plus they can just tour the zoo and ride an amusement ride. Kathy also led a tour of the Japanese Friendship Garden and History Park which are all at Kelley Park.
A group of hiking club members took a long walk through the Villages starting with a tour of Cribari, then through the Verano bridge to the Highlands and continued down to the golf course, then up the water fall and in Hermosa to the high cliff around Montgomery and to the back of Montgomery’s lake and then walked back to Cribari for a light lunch at the Bistro.
Because of the threat of rain on Wednesday, May 16th, it was decided to hike within the Villages instead of going to Los Alamitos Creek. The group consisting of five hiked the back paths of Cribari, Verano, Highland, Hermosa and Montgomery ending the trek at the bistro. All in all the hike covered a little over 5 miles. There were no clear pictures to publish.
Guy Hoover led a hike along Camel’s Scenic Rd. They parked at Camel River State Beach and hiked along the Scenic Rd to Ocean Ave. There were great ocean views and some interesting houses to view. The Total hike distance was about 6 miles. Elevation was less than 200 ft.
The club’s annual variety Show and potluck open to all Villagers was held on Thursday, May 9th at the Cribari auditorium The entertainment was varied and entertaining this year showcasing the may talents in the Villages.
