John Trudeau led the long hikers to the top of Montara Mountain. The start was from San Pedro Valley Park in Pacifica on a moderate hike of about 8.5 miles round trip and 1700ft elevation gain. The gentle, refreshing mist from the coastal fog and the “bracing” weather and “fog-shrouded views of the coast and hills made for a delightful gradual and steady climb to the top.
Sy Gelman led a group of ramblers on a hike to the Devils Slide overlook. The trail was almost 3 miles long. It offered spectacular views and unparalleled opportunities for viewing birds and marine mammals. It is built on what was once a treacherous stretch of Highway 1, the site of frequent landslides, accidents, and closures. When the Tom Lantos Tunnels opened in 2013, the San Mateo County Parks Department converted this segment of the old highway to this public multi-use, non-motorized trail.
