10-26-23 Villages Hiking Club Board Minutes

Board Meeting was called to order at 9:35 am by President Bob Bogdanoff with the following board
members attending: VPs Social – Bibi Bruce accompanied by Linda Arbaugh; VP Membership & Website
– Jim Beyer; Treasurer – Gordon Carbonetti; Secretary – Cheryl Allmen and VP Hiking & Trails – John
Petrin. Absent: Carmel Smith.
Reports
Secretary – Cheryl emailed the September 2023 Board and General Meeting Minutes to the Board
members. Jim moved and Gordon seconded approval of the minutes. Motion passed.
Treasurer – Gordon indicated he had earlier emailed the current reports to the Board members. The
Hills budget is unchanged ( $2,715.89 ) and the balance of the General budget is ($ 4,667.42 ) after a
variety of Club payments processed including Pt Reyes trip motel, restaurant, summer social. John
motioned and Cheryl seconded to approve the fiscal reports. Motion approved.
VP Membership & Website – Jim announced Club has a 333 members with the addition of a new
member, Susie Conklin. Website is updated constantly and has many photos of activities since 2012. He
contacted David to create a new monthly link. Jim also sent at list of attendees at the Pt Reyes outings
adding the dinner cost to their individual HOA statement.
Bob initiated a discussion resulting in suggestions on how to get new members “out of the starting block” and be more familiar with the Club’s different activities and hikes so they could choose the types of club activities they wanted to participate in. Several suggestions were made including a “New Member Meet for Appetizers at Bistro” invitation. Discussion continued relating to encouraging other members to
consider participation in travel adventures, leadership opportunities, and an increase in the numbers of
hike leaders.
VP Hiking & Trails – John shared that 43 people thoroughly enjoyed the Pt Reyes trip and loved the
hikes and food and reception and all returned home, injury free. November hikes are all arranged. Guy
and Sy do a great job in arranging the December hikes. Jim Wear and Gordon Carbonetti have helped to
organize the hill hikes while Russ improves health wise. Information about the New Year’s Day January 1
hike will occur in near future.
VP Social – Bibi & Linda announced the November 9th Game Night (Foothill 4:30-9pm) is well planned
and more information will be emailed to the membership this week which includes availability of yummy Dutch Apple pie, bring your own beverages and your favorite game to share. Plans for the Holiday Party,
Thursday, December 14 th (approximately 5:30 – 9:00pm, Auditorium) are coming along with the addition
of music, singing etc. to be included along with yummy potluck and meal courses.
President – Bob passed out the approved calendar of Hiking Club 2024 activities and began a discussion
on how to increase the availability of potential candidates for 2024 Hiking Club Officers for the November
27 th elections. To date the slate includes: President -Bob Bogdanoff; Co-VP Social-Bib Bruce and Linda
Arbaugh; Secretary-Cheryl Allmen; VP Trails: Gordon Carbonetti; VP Membership-Jim Beyer; Treasurer-
Bert Tang. At the October general meeting, additional nominations can be added to this slate.
General Meeting Speakers include November – Bob Bogdanoff – Big Bend National Park; January – Live
to 100 – Jane Rowan; February – Andrea MacKenzie, and GM, Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge Open
Space.
Next Meetings: General- Monday, Oct 30 th , 7:30pm, Foothill Center. Presentation: Pine Ridge
Association – Henry Coe State Park, Al Henning. Board: Thurs, November 16 th , 9:30am Patio Room,
Cribari.
