Sierra Azul Open Space Hike

The long hikers did a 7-8 mile hike below Mt. Umunhum from Hicks Road . We hiked on mostly shaded trails with an elevation gain of 1200 ft and enjoyed lunch on Bald Mountain. The Ramblers enjoyed hiking on the same trail but didn’t go as far. It was a nice day with a great turnout.

Hiking Club Summer Outing 2013

The hiking club completed their summer trip to the Sierras, July 10 – 12th, with a total of 21 going on the trip.  We all visited Calaveras Big Trees state park on the first day, of course, to see the big trees and do some easy hiking.  On the second day, the long hikers did about 9 miles of the Pacific Crest Trails at Ebbitt’s pass.  The Ramblers took a lower elevation route with fewer hills but more mountain lakes.  Walkers did a stroll around Lake Alpine.  We lunched by a beautiful mountain stream and met a number of young very fit and healthy looking hikers along the way, some of which were doing the entire length of the Pacific Crest from Mexico to Canada (don’t they have jobs?).  In the evening we all ate a salmon dinner personally prepared and served by Tracy and her family at the Dorrington Inn where a number of us stayed in the 1960’s style A-frame chalets.

Wine Tasting Event

The wine tasting event was held on May 9th and enjoyed by all
that attended. A slideshow of the vineyards and the surrounding hiking areas was viewed as everyone nibbled on cheese and crackers. Next, three wines from a local winery were paired with the appropriate food courses, prepared by some of the best chefs in our community. Dessert and coffee followed. It was an excellent culinary experience as well as an enjoyable evening.
