Morro Bay Outing



April 4th through 6th the spring outing was held in Morro Bay, a seaside resort area that provided a variety of hiking trails along the dramatic seaside as well as nearby mountains. There were impressive sea stacks, sandstone formations, and colorful spring flowers in Los Padros National forest. A visit to the pinnacles was also a favorite destination. Some of the group went to Carrizo Plain National Monument at Santa Margarita, about 2 hours from Morro Bay.

Annual Trail Maintenance

Annual trail maintenance day was held on Saturday, April 1st. The workers gathered at the Foothill Center at 8.30 AM for a morning of work to maintain and upgrade the trails in our hill lands. Freemont Older Open Space Hike



Johanna Bakker led a rambler hike in Fremont Older Open Space in Saratoga on Wednesday, March 29th. The 4-5 mile loop with a 400 ft elevation difference had beautiful views overlooking the bay area.

Monterey Fisherman’s Warf Hike

Gary and Terry Holmquist led a hike along the coastal hiking/biking trail in Monterey on Saturday, March 16th.  The hike started from the Fishermans Wharf Parking lot in Monterey and headed west on the Coastal Trail to Lovers Point and on to Point Pinos.  The hike continued on for six to eight miles.  A most beautiful stretch of the California Coast with dramatic scenery and great views of the ocean.

New Leaf Hike

 

Katy Peretti led a rambler hike to New Leaf.  This favorite neighborhood hike was 4-5 miles long.

Butano State Park Hike

Dan Kato led the long hikers at Butano State Park on a challenging hike of 10 to 12 miles with climbs up and down and Wate Bakker led the ramblers on flatter terrain and a shorter hike at the same location on Saturday, March 11th.

Stile’s Ranch Hike

Brad Hinckley led a rambler hike in Stile’s Ranch on Wednesday, March 8th.  The group saw a number of flowers just begining to start to flower.  In a few weeks there should be lots of them in full bloom.

Alamaden Quicksilver County Park Hike


Wate and Johanna Bakker led rambler and long hikes in the Almaden Quicksilver county Park on Saturday, March 4th. The rambler hike was 4-5 miles and the long hike 7-8 miles. Elevation difference for the hikes was a few hundred feet.

Sanford Cantor Arts Center Tour

 


Bonnie Preston led a rambler trip to the Stanford Cantor Arts Center for a current  “Surrealism: the Conjured Life” exhibit which gives greater insight into this power of the subconscious mind  which begun in 1920 yet maintains these elements even today. Before seeing the exhibit, there was a walk for an hour to see the new Bing Concert Hall.

Pearson-Arastradero Preserve Hike

Richard Bainbridge and Wendy Ledamun led a medium hike in Pearson-Arastradero Preserve, in the Palo Alto foothills. This new destination for the hiking club proved to be a winner with a beautiful blue sky and views of SF and many of the surrounding peaks. The trails were mainly old farm roads with connector trails.  The hike was about 4 miles with an elevation gain of about 400 ft. The hike was in the open space which was perfect for the day’s temperature.
