Point Lobos Hike

Amy Meier led an 8 mile hike at Point Lobos beginning at Hidden Beach. They hiked the Bird Island Trail, South Plateau Trail, Carmelo Trail and Granite Point Trail. At 11:00AM they met Docent Reg Henry at Whalers Cabin and Museum. He gave the group a narrated tour along the .75 mile North Shore Trail to the Information Station. After the tour the group continued down the South Shore.

Sawyer Camp Trail Hike

On Wednesday, August 8th Ramon and Marianna Reza led a hike to the Sawyer Camp Trail. The 11.3-mile trail runs through Redwood City, San Mateo, and Burlingame. The group hiked about 5-6 miles “in and out” on a flat paved portion of the trail. The trail ran along the Crystal Springs Reservoir and provided some tree shade.

Bel Aire Hike

Randy Cisneroz led a loop hike from the Villages to and across the nearby Bel Air and Hillstone Estates via Shadow Ridge Way (Larkspur/Stony Creek Place/Bently/Canyon Hills/Shadow Ridge/Hillstone/Yerba Buena). They stopped at the Starbucks/Le Boulanger on the corner of San Felipe and Yerba Buena for coffee and snacks. The hike was about 5 miles with modest and gradual elevation at the beginning of the hike.

Elkhorn Slough Hike

Gary and Terry Holmquist led a hike to Elkhorn Slough in Watsonville on Saturday, July 28th. They combined several of the park trails to get a good cross section of the areas various ecosystems. The group walked approximately 5 miles on mostly flat trails.

Big Basin Hike

Brad Hinckley led a hike at the start of road 236 going into Big Basin Park from Hwy 9 on Wednesday, July 25th. It was about a four mile hike.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Hike

Gary and Terry Holmquist led a hike along West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz on Wednesday, July 18th . The group started at the Wharf and proceed approximately two miles past the lighthouse before returning.

Lands End/Bakers Beach Hike

Wate and Johanna Bakker led long and rambler hikers along the S.F sea shore, starting at Lands End and ending at Bakers Beach. The ramblers hiked 4-5 miles on a largely flat trail with some steps and sandy areas. The long hikers did about 7 miles.

BBQ 2018 Social

The Villages Hiking Club held its annual Summer BBQ on Thursday, July 12th, beginning at 5:30 pm at Gazebo Park. There was a Cornhole Game set-up and ready for action plus a few “surprise” games. BBQ included your choice of a hamburger, salmon burger or veggie black bean burger with all the trimmings, baked beans, cole slaw and dessert.

Willow Glen Hike

Liz Giarratana led a relaxing, walking, talking and gawking urban hike through the historic older part of Willow Glen in central San Jose on Wednesday, July 11th. The three-hour history walk took us through architecturally unique neighborhoods of Victorian, Craftsman, Spanish Mission, and many other home styles. Liz’s presentation was very interesting and informative.
