Los Alamitos Creek Hike

Sy Gelman led a rambler hike along Los Alamitos Creek Trail on Wednesday, January 24th .  Starting from Almaden Lake the trail followed Los Alamitos Creek on mostly level ground .  Hike mileage was about 3-4 miles.

Hill lands Hike

Al Girolami led a hike in our own open space on Wednesday, January 17th . They met and started at Foothill Center at 8:30am and hiked the following trails: Past the Stables to Rawhide, up to Ohlone (Indian), crossover to Skyway and visit the Indian Grinding Rock.  Then down on Skyway and up on Bay and down on Richter and then taking Joe Marsh to the Upper Gardens and passing through Valle Vista and back to Foothill Center.

Alum Park Hikes

On Saturday, January 13th Nancy Rumple led the long hikers on a 7 mile hike in Alum Rock Park with 1200 ft. elevation gain on the North Rim, Todd Quick and Baccardo Loop trails up to the overlook and back. Rich Bainbridge led a rambler hike on a 5 mile route on some of the lower trails in the park.

White Elephant & Soup Supper Party

The hiking club held its annual white elephant gift exchange and soup supper fun event on Thursday, January 11 starting at 5:30 pm at Foothill Center.

Shoreline Park Outing

Wate and Johanna Bakker led fourteen Ramblers on a four-mile hike in Shoreline Park on Wednesday, January 10th.  After two days of rain, the all weather paths at Shoreline proved to be a perfect choice. The cool morning provided a perfect setting for large flocks of birds.   As usual, the hike ended at the Shoreline Cafe with a hearty extended lunch and much conversation.

Dry Creek Pioneer Park Hike

Rich Bainbridge & Wendy Ledamun led a hike in Dry Creek Pioneer Park near Niles, CA. on Saturday, January 6th.The hike was about 5 miles long with an elevation gain of about 900 ft.

Coyote Creek Trail Hike

Katy Peretti led a hike along Coyote Creek to Hellyer Park from Blossom Hill Road on a paved trial. Total distance was about 3-4 miles.

2018 New Years Top of the Hill Celebration

The Hiking Club once again celebrated New Year’s Day at the top of our tallest hill, at 2,300 ft. elevation for the long hikers starting from Foothill Center. Katie Peretti led the Ramblers on the lower hill trails to the picnic tables at the intersection of Sky and Indian trails. They met at the parking lot of the upper gardens.

Stan Pegram’s Memorial Hike


There were hikes to honor Stan Pegram one of the most faithful and active members of the hiking club, even during his protracted illness. Wate and Johanna Bakker led long and ramble hikes in memory of his friendship and contributions. Both hikes started at the upper garden parking lot at 10 AM. Johanna’s hike was about 3 miles with 300-400 ft elevation gain and Wate’s hike was about 4 miles long with a 1000 ft elevation gain. After the hike all shared a meal  with Stan’s family in the Foothill center, starting at 12.15 PM , to reminisce about Stan’s time at the Villages and celebrate his life with us.

Village Hike

On Wednesday, December 27th some of the club members took a hike around the villages to prepare for our annual New Years Day hike up the hill ..
