Mount Madonna County Park

Hikers took a 8 mile hike with 1000ft elevation gain through the Redwoods led by Nancy Rumple. They hiked down the rocky Loop-Merry-go-Round trails, across Tie Camp, up Ridge, Contour and Blackhawk Trails to the Azalea picnic area for lunch.They also visited the Giant Twin Redwood Trees as they wound their way back up to the Park headquarters.

Coyote Creek Trail Hike

Rich Bainbridge and Wendy Ledamun led a hike along Coyote Creek Trail. The trail was flat and easy hiking.

Calero County Park Hike

Al Girolami led a hike to Calero County Park.  They took the Access Trail and then did a Loop consisting of the Figueroa, Pena and Los Cerritos Trails. Distance was less than 4 miles and less than 300 ft. elevation gain. This hike is one of the 2018 Santa Clara County Park’s Magnificent 7 (Google: #PixinParks for further information).  

 

Alum Rock Park Hike

Susan Brown led a hike in Alum Rock Park. Some of the hikers went up to moderately hilly Sycamore Switch Back Trail to Inspiration Point and some went a shorter distance. They parked the cars at Noble Library on 3355 Noble Ave which is a mile from the park. They then hiked part of Penitentia Creek Park to Alum Rock Park and back. Total mileage for long hikers was about 9.6 miles and about 5 for the Ramblers.

Los Alamitos Trail Hike

Sy Gelman led a hike on the Los Alamitos Trail. The hike began at the south end of Almaden Lake Park and followed the Los Alamitos Creek Trail to the Camden parking lot,for a distance of approximately 3 miles.

Hill Hike

Rich Bainbridge led a hike up our hill on Saturday, August 18th, meeting at the circle at the top of Village View Dr. The hike was mostly in the shade including Meadow, Thistle, Bay, Buffalo, Oak and Skyway trails.

Coyote Creek Hike

Johanna Bakker led a hike along Coyote Creek. The group went south to fishladder and continued on to Metcalf Rd and then returned the same way. The hike was about 4 miles.

Point Lobos Hike

Amy Meier led an 8 mile hike at Point Lobos beginning at Hidden Beach. They hiked the Bird Island Trail, South Plateau Trail, Carmelo Trail and Granite Point Trail. At 11:00AM they met Docent Reg Henry at Whalers Cabin and Museum. He gave the group a narrated tour along the .75 mile North Shore Trail to the Information Station. After the tour the group continued down the South Shore.

Sawyer Camp Trail Hike

On Wednesday, August 8th Ramon and Marianna Reza led a hike to the Sawyer Camp Trail. The 11.3-mile trail runs through Redwood City, San Mateo, and Burlingame. The group hiked about 5-6 miles “in and out” on a flat paved portion of the trail. The trail ran along the Crystal Springs Reservoir and provided some tree shade.

Bel Aire Hike

Randy Cisneroz led a loop hike from the Villages to and across the nearby Bel Air and Hillstone Estates via Shadow Ridge Way (Larkspur/Stony Creek Place/Bently/Canyon Hills/Shadow Ridge/Hillstone/Yerba Buena). They stopped at the Starbucks/Le Boulanger on the corner of San Felipe and Yerba Buena for coffee and snacks. The hike was about 5 miles with modest and gradual elevation at the beginning of the hike.
